Audible has announced it will present the world premiere of Heart, written by and starring British performer and poet Jade Anouka, Off-Broadway at Minetta Lane Theatre. Previews will begin July 9, with opening night scheduled for July 17. Performances of the limited engagement will continue through August 14.
Heart explores the process of picking up the pieces through the story of a woman who becomes divorced at age 28 and must face insecurities and self-imposed boundaries to move forward. Along the way, she discovers love where and with whom she least expected.
Ola Ince will direct the production which also features scenic design by 2022 Tony nominee Arnulfo Maldonado, costume design by Emily Rebholz, lighting design by 2022 Tony nominee Jen Schriever, and sound design by Fitz Patton. Brian Bogin will serve as production stage manager. Technical supervision will be by Hudson Theatrical Associates with general management by Baseline Theatrical's Andy Jones and Jonathan Whitton. Audible is producing in association with Kate Pakenham Productions.
“This play began in 2018 when I spurted my heart onto a page," said Anouka in a statement. "I sent that poetic mess to Kate Pakenham, who believed this was a story worth sharing. Here we are, four years and many rewrites later, and I cannot wait to finally tell my story. To quote a line from the play, 'this is a story for all the misfits, all those who have ever felt other.'"
Kate Navin, Artistic Producer of Audible Theater said in a statement, “Being able to introduce our New York audience to Jade Anouka, a powerhouse talent of London’s West End, shows the strength and reach of Audible Theater as a cultural passport.” Heart will also be released June 2 as an Audible Original, making it available to Audible listeners worldwide on the digital storytelling platform.
