A new production of Shrek the Musical will tour the UK and Ireland beginning July 21, 2023 at Plymouth Theatre Royal. The Tony, Drama Desk, and Olivier Award-winning show by David Lindsay-Abaire and Jeanine Tesori will be reimagined by a new creative team for the tour co-directed by former Lord Farquaad actor Sam Holmes and choreographer Nick Winston, with set and costume design by Philip Witcomb.
The tour will continue to Manchester at Opera House Manchester, Dublin, Bristol, Southend, Carlisle, Aberdeen, Oxford, Wimbledon, Dartford, Northampton, Bradford, Woking, Eastbourne, Cardiff, York, and Blackpool. More dates will be announced soon.
"I am delighted to be bringing this re-imagined production of the beloved Shrek the Musical to audiences across the UK and Ireland," said producer Mark Goucher. "The story of Shrek is known and loved across the world and this show is an incredibly joyous, fun and uplifting evening at the theatre that will be enjoyed by all ages."
The musical is based on the Academy Award-winnning DreamWorks animated franchise Shrek and was first performed on Broadway in 2008. The production received 8 Tony nominations, taking home the accolade for Best Costume Design, and was nominated for four Olivier awards, with performer Nigel Harman winning Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical.
