Oliver Cotton's The Score, which made its world premiere at the Theatre Royal Bath in 2023, will arrive in the West End February 20 at Theatre Royal Haymarket for a limited engagement through April 26.

Again directed by Trevor Nunn, the cast will be led by Brian Cox (Succession) as Johann Sebastian Bach and Nicole Ansari-Cox (Deadwood, Succession) as Bach’s wife Anna. The married couple also starred in the world premiere.

They will be joined by Peter De Jersey as Voltaire, Juliet Garricks as Emilia, Stephen Hagan as Frederick, Jamie Wilkes as Carl, Christopher Staines as Quantz, Toby Webster as Benda, Matthew Romain as Graun, and James Gladdon as Helstein, with Geoffrey Towers, Jordan Kilshaw, and Rebecca Thornhill. Opening night in London is scheduled for February 27.

The play is set in 1747 Prussia as Bach reluctantly visits the court of the ambitious and dangerous European leader Frederick II. The two men could hardly be more different; however, Frederick remains in awe of Bach’s genius and has prepared a musical conundrum that he hopes will baffle the composer and amuse his court.

Cox is a two-time Olivier winner for his performances in Rat in the Skull and Titus Andronicus. Film credits include Braveheart, The Long Kiss Goodnight, and The Bourne Identity.

Former artistic director of the National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company, Tony and Olivier winner Nunn’s career includes the international hit musical Les Misérables and the Tony-winning The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, among many others.

The production also has set and costume design by Robert Jones, lighting design by Johanna Town, sound design and music by composer Sophie Cotton, associate direction by Cordelia Monsey, and casting by Ginny Schiller.
