MCC Theater and The Movement Theatre Company will present a staged reading of Quick Service by May Treuhaft-Ali. The reading will take place March 3 at 2 PM at MCC's Newman Mills Theater.
Set in a Chicago empanada shop, four employees try to make it through the dinner rush amidst a barrage of obstacles including ex-coworkers set on revenge and an oven with a mind of its own.
Cristina Angeles directs the new play as part of MCC Theater's PlayLab development program. The cast includes Yadira Guevara-Prip, Booker Vance, Nate Miller, and Nikita Tewani. Kyra Button serves as the stage manager.
“After spending two years getting to know each other’s organizations we're thrilled to officially partner with The Movement Theatre Company this year and embark on this developmental workshop and staged reading to lift up this work and this phenomenal team of artists,” says Artistic Director Will Cantler in a statement.
“We are so excited to collaborate with MCC to bring Quick Service’s words to life through PlayLab,” adds The Movement Theatre Company. “This reading, teaming up May's thrilling, highly imaginative voice and Cristina's joyful directorial leadership, will present the often over-looked and complex labor of the food service industry and our relationship to work.”
Funding for these programs is provided by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
