Clint Dyer's production of Othello at the National Theatre in London has announced the full cast joining its leads Olivier winner Giles Terera (Death of England, Hamilton), Rosy McEwen (The Alienist), and Paul Hilton (The Inheritance).
The production begins rehearsals for its upcoming run which will begin previews in the Lyttelton November 23 ahead of its November 30 press night. Performances are scheduled through January 21.
Joining Terera as Othello, McEwen as Desdemona, and Hilton as Iago will be Jack Bardoe, Joe Bolland, Rory Fleck Byrne, Kirsty J Curtis, Peter Eastland, Patrick Elue, Tanya Franks, Colm Gormley, Gareth Kennerley, Joshua Lacey, Martin Marquez, Katie Matsell, Amy Newton, Sabi Perez, Steffan Rizzi, Jay Simpson, and Ryan Whittle.
Clint Dyer will direct, marking the first time a Black man has directed Othello at a major British theatre. The production will feature set design by Chloe Lamford, costume design by Michael Vale, lighting design by Jai Morjaria, movement direction by Lucie Pankhurst, video design by Nina Dunn and Gino Ricardo Green, and fight direction by Kev McCurdy. Sound design and composition will be by Pete Malkin and Benjamin Grant, with Sola Akingbola serving as co-composer. Shankho Chaudhuri will be associate set designer, and Mumba Dowell will be staff director.
Plans were previously announced for the production to be broadcast in cinemas worldwide via National Theatre Live in 2023.
