The producers of Matthew Lombardo's new comedy When Playwrights Kill have announced that the planned July 26-August 7 production at The Bushnell's Belding Theatre in Hartford, Connecticut has been cancelled. The work will instead pursue a chance to further develop the work in New York City this summer.

“We are so excited to explore the further development of this play,” the show's producers said in a statement. “And although sales were strong in Hartford, we decided this shift would benefit all involved, particularly the creative team as they foster their vision in an effort to move this production forward."

The comedy follows Jack Hawkins, an aspiring playwright about to make his Broadway debut with his new work, a debut threatened by difficult actress Brooke Remington, leaving the show's director Maurice Khalan Walker to keep the two from killing each other. Freddie Carlton, the show's struggling theatre producer who is looking for a Broadway hit to revitalize his career, hires inexperienced prompter Tobias Deschanel to assist Remington with her lines, and stage manager Liz Jennings attempts to keep the situation from getting out of control.

The production at The Bushnell’s Belding Theatre will be rescheduled at a later date with the run's previously announced cast and creative team. Cast members include Tony nominee Jeremy Jordan, Tony winner Harriet Harris, and Tony winner André De Shields, Arnie Burton, Nik Alexander, and Irene Sofia Lucio, as well as understudies Jake Loewenthal, Catherine LeFrere, and Darius Wallace. Noah Himmelstein was previously announced as director.

Further information to be announced at a later date.
