Los Angeles' The Geffen Playhouse has announced the full cast for the West Coast premiere of Fernanda Coppel's King Liz. Previews will begin July 12, and the run will officially open July 21 in the Geffen's Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater. Performances will run through August 14.
Starring in the cast will be Sabrina Sloan (Hamilton) as Liz Rico, Evan Morris Reiser (Othello) as Freddie Luna, Ray Abruzzo (The Sopranos) as Mr. Candy, Oscar Best (Blood Knot) as Coach Jones, Nancy Linari (Marvel's Spiderman) as Barbara Flowers, and Michelle Ortiz (MADtv) as Gabby Fuentes.
Powerful sports agent Liz Rico represents NBA superstars. Freddie Luna is a high school basketball player with once-in-a-generation talent and a troubled past. Liz has a chance to sign Freddie, a move that could move her career in a male-dominated industry to the next level. But as accusations towards Freddie begin to come out, Liz is faced with a choice: save Freddie's career or save her own.
Directed by Jesca Prudencio (Interstate), the creative team will include scenic and video designer Justin Humphres, costume designer Devario D. Simmons, lighting designer Rebecca Bonebrake, sound designer Melanie Chen Cole, production stage manager Lizzie Thompson, and casting director Phyllis Schuringa.
