Comedy Tales From the Guttenberg Bible by Steve Guttenberg will play Bay Street Theater as the finale of the Long Island venue's Mainstage season. The work had its world premiere at New Jersey's George Street Playhouse earlier this year. George Street Playhouse is co-producing the Bay Street Theater production, which will be directed by David Saint once again.
Written and staring Guttenberg, the comedy features more than 90 characters played by four actors. Guttenberg takes audiences on the journey of his life from his childhood in Long Island to the glamor of Hollywood where he starred in Three Men and a Baby, Police Academy, and Cocoon—and how he broke onto the Paramount Lot.
In addition to Guttenberg, Tales From the Guttenberg Bible's company includes Carine Montbertrand, Dan Domingues, and Arnie Burton reprising their roles with Stephen DeRosa newly joining the cast to alternate roles with Burton.
“This story has been swirling around my brain for years and I’ve gotten it out in pieces, but now I feel the tale must be told," said Guttenberg in an earlier statement. “My aim is to entertain, and for people to learn what an actor really does to break in, break out, and grab opportunity when the door opens."
The George Street Playhouse production featured scenic and projection design by Caite Hevner, costume design by Lisa Zinni, lighting design by Joe Saint, and sound design and original music by Scott Killian.
