Additional performances of Oh God, A Show About Abortion are set to run in Los Angeles and New York.
Brooklyn writer Alison Leiby's solo show will play two performances July 20 at Largo in Los Angeles before returning August 8 to Off-Broadway's Cherry Lane Theatre, where it's played since May 5. The work will run for 15 encore performances (following its first extension) through August 26.
Directed by Lila Neugebauer and presented by Broad City co-creator and star Ilana Glazer, the show sees Leiby telling the story of a momentous summer that involved a scary visit to the "Fertility" section of a Missouri CVS, two root canals, and, finally, a trip to Planned Parenthood. Following the recent Supreme Court overturn of Roe v. Wade, the comedian shared her thoughts via Instagram. "I don't know what to do or what to say. I do a fun comedy show about my abortion experience, an experience that for so many people is (and has been all along) an absolute fantasy, something far outside their reality."
She continued to encourage her followers to donate to abortion funds.
Select performances featured informational talkbacks and opportunities to donate to organizations, including Planned Parenthood, A is For, and the Center for Reproductive Rights. The show's production company, Bad Robot Productions, matched all donations. Leiby also hosted a one-day-only bake sale to support abortion access. The fundraiser took place at the Cherry Lane Theatre and was in collaboration with pastry chef Natasha Li Pickowicz.
