Broadway stars Taylor Trensch, Lilli Cooper, and Julie McBride will accompany actor-singer Blake Daniel in his August 21 tribute concert to British folk singer Laura Marling at Joe’s Pub in New York City.
Making his solo concert debut, Daniel will tell the story of how he left his home in northern Georgia and landed a job in the Broadway production of Spring Awakening at the age of 17, and how he discovered that Marling’s music “voiced feelings of young love and teenage fatalism that perfectly spoke to [his] current period of transformation.”
The concert will draw on songs from Marling’s six solo albums, including Alas, I Cannot Swim (2008), I Speak Because I Can (2010), and Once I Was an Eagle (2013).
Daniel wote that Marling’s songs, created during the ensuing years, reflected his own journey through life: “discovering his sexuality, adapting his ambitions, coping with depression, and highlighting career milestones.”
Trensch (Barnaby in the current revival of Hello, Dolly!), Cooper (Sandy in the forthcoming premiere production of SpongeBob SquarePants), and McBride (conductor of Amazing Grace), will guest star in the concert, titled Blake Daniel Sings Laura Marling.
Tickets cost $20 and can be ordered online at Joespub.com, or by phone at (212) 967-7555. Joe’s Pub is part of the Public Theatre complex at 425 Lafayette Street in the Greenwich Village section of Manhattan.
