Some familiar stage alums will perform in the upcoming The Pussy Grabber Plays at Joe's Pub. The previously announced evening will debut short plays inspired by the women who have come forward with personal accounts and allegations of President Donald Trump’s sexual harassment and assaults.
The Pussy Grabber Plays will kick off at Joe's Pub January 14 at 9:30 PM. All of the proceeds from the evening will be donated to the New York Women's The Fund for the MeToo Movement and Allies, with the plays later made available and royalty-free to community groups and colleges around the country.
The actor lineup includes Clea Alsip, Genevieve Angelson, Tina Benko, Molly Bernard, Kathleen Chalfant, Michael Chernus, Tasha Dixon, Tony winner Katie Finneran, Caitlin Fitzgerald, Judy Gold, Sue Jean Kim, Lora Lee Gayer, Maria- Christina Oliveras, Maureen Sebastian, and Mirirai Sithole.
The pieces draw from interviews with seven women who have come forward against Trump: Rachel Crooks, Dixon, Jill Harth, Samantha Holvey, Jessica Leeds, Natasha Stoynoff and Karena Virginia.
Dixon, an actor and former Miss Arizona, will play herself in a piece written by Brownell (This Is Us). The other participating playwrights are Bess Wohl (Small Mouth Sounds), Halley Feiffer (I’m Gonna Pray For You So Hard), Sam Chanse (The Opportunities of Extinction), Anna Ziegler (Photograph 51), Sharyn Rothstein (By the Water), and Melissa Li (Interstate), who has co-written a play with Stoynoff (Captive: A Mother's Crusade to Save Her Daughter From a Terrifying Cult).
The event is developed and produced by an all-female creative team led by co-creators, theatre agent Kate Pines and playwright Rothstein. Directors for the evening are Jaki Bradley, Katherine Carter, Jade King Carroll, Sarna Lapine, Lila Neugebauer, Tyne Rafaeli, Laura Savia, and Marlo Hunter will direct.
