Victoria Buchholz and Todd Buchholz's new musical Glory Ride opens its world premiere at West End's Charing Cross Theatre April 28. Telling the story of 1940s Italian icon Gino Bartali, Glory Ride began transporting audiences to Tuscany, Italy with the first preview performance April 22. Its engagement is set through July 29.

Gino Bartali was an Italian icon of the 1940s. Known as an athlete and winner of the internationally-renowned cycling competition the Tour de France, few knew that one of the most famous men in Italy smuggled falsified identity cards and other documents to help save hundreds of Jews and other refugees from fascism.

Starring are Josh St. Clair (Frozen) as Gino Bartali, Amy Di Bartolomeo (SIX) as Adriana Bani, Fed Zanni (Mamma Mia! The Party) as Major Mario Carita, Daniel Robinson (Heathers the Musical) as Giorgio Nico, Niall Sheehy (Titanic the Musical) as Cardinal Elia Dalla Costa, Ruairidh McDonald (Half a Sixpence), as Felix, Ryan Bennett (Heathers the Musical) as Commander Graziani, Peter Watts (Macbeth) as Fantali, Loris Scarpa (Once in Concert) as Lorenzo, Susanna Paisio (Song of the Earth) as Rosetta, Steve Watts (As You Like It) as Torello. Jamie Coyne and Alice Spigariol are making their professional debuts as Cosmo and ensemble, respectively.

Victoria Buchholz first heard the story of Gino Bartali while traveling in Tuscany. Once she determined that she wanted to turn his story into a musical, she began working with her father Todd. The two collaborated to write the book, music, and lyrics.

Kelly Devine (Diana) directs the production, which features musical direction by Dave Rose, set, costume, and video design by PJ McEvoy, lighting design by Rob Halliday, orchestrations by Jen Green, and cultural advising by Federico Bellone. Casting is by Harry Blumenau and general Management by Smart Entertainment.

Glory Ride has previously been developed through workshops in New York and Los Angeles, with sold-out staged concerts last year at London's The Other Palace Theatre.
