Bedlam announced casting for its Do More: New Plays, a series focused on showcasing new works that will run April 29-May 1 at the Connelly Theater.
Curated by Bedlam Associate Artistic Director Zachary Elkind in support of the Broadway Advocacy Coalition, the series includes readings of five plays that align with Bedlam’s goal to cultivate "a more just, equitable, and inclusive next generation of classics."
The cast of Sparks Fly Upward, written by Eleanor Burgess and directed by Zachary Elkind, includes Gregg Mozgala, Jordan Boatman, Evelyn Spahr, and Leland Fowler. The show will be presented April 29 at 7PM.
The Good John Proctor is written by Talene Monahon and directed by Cristina Angeles. Comprising the cast are Midori Francis, Susannah Perkins, and Tavi Gevinson. It will play April 30 at 3PM.
Mother Says She’s Shocked, which will run April 30 at 7 PM, is written by Emily Breeze and will be directed by Katherine Wilkinson. The cast includes Violeta Picayo, Zo Tipp, Masha Breeze, Danielle Purdy, Zoe Goslin, Donnie Cianciotto, Nora Kaye, Anik Zarkos, and Renelle Wilson.
love i awethu further is written by a.k. payne and directed by Jacob Basri. It will run May 1 at 3 PM with a cast that includes Abigail C. Onwunali, Tavia Elise Hunt, Whitney Andrews, Janiah Francois, Maggie McCaffery, Tyler Cruz, Jasminn Johnson, and N’yomi Stewart.
Concluding the series is Dennis May 1 at 7 PM. The play is written and directed by Zack Fine. The cast includes Steve Epp, Richard Thierrot, Luis Quintero, Luis Moreno, Merritt Janson, Leland Fowler, and Andy Grotelueschen.
The Do More series was created in 2020 to raise funds and awareness for eliminating race discrimination. The readings have raised $28,975 for organizations dedicated to social justice.
Bedlam's 10th anniversary season will continue with the Jon Robin Baitz adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler and Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale at the Irondale Center. Visit Bedlam.org.
