It was one of the first performances of the weekend-long Playbill Pride celebration.

Playbill has wrapped up day one of our Playbill's Pride in Times Square weekend celebration, which started with a bang Friday June 23 as numerous Broadway stars took to the stage in Times Square. Among the performers was Tony winner and Some Like It Hot star J. Harrison Ghee, who led a group singalong of "I Am What I Am" from La Cage Aux Folles alongside the American Theatre Wing Chorus. Watch the video of Ghee's performance above.

Ghee sang as part of the Celebrate You! concert (presented by ViiV Healthcare), which is just one of the events planned for Playbill Pride 2023. The day also included a kickoff event, hosted by James T. Lane and L. Morgan Lee, and the Anthems of Pride concert (which ended with confetti and a performance of "Defying Gravity" by Wicked star Mary Kate Morrissey).

Playbill Pride 2023 will continue June 24, and performers will include The NYC Gay Men’s Chorus; a concert featuring transgender, non-binary, and Two-Spirit+ (TNB2S+) composers; and the Big Broadway Disco dance party (which will feature performances from the cast of Moulin Rouge! and Here Lies Love).

Pride in Times Square is a one-of-a-kind celebration for Times Square Pride Weekend; all benefiting non-profits that work for and with the LGBTQIA+ community. It features over 275 artists over two days. Follow along this weekend for Playbill's coverage of the events.

Pride in Times Square is sponsored by American Express, ViiV Healthcare, and Audible Theater, with additional support from Hotel Edison, The National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), Open Jar Studios, the NYC Mayor’s Office of Equity, and NYC Unity Project.
