Vanities: The Musical, a stage musical version of the 1976 play of the same name that was originally seen Off-Broadway in 2009 after prior productions in California in 2006 and 2008, is to receive its European premiere at London's Trafalgar Studios 2, beginning performances September 1 prior to an official opening September 6, for a run through October 1.

Featuring direction and choreography by Racky Plews (London's American Idiot) and a cast led by Lauren Samuels (Bend it Like Beckham, Grease), Ashleigh Gray (Wicked) and Lizzy Connolly (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), the musical has a book by Jack Heifner and music and lyrics by David Kirshenbaum.

It tells the story of three best friends growing up in Dallas at a time when image and style were more important than brains and ambition. Through an original score that blends girl-group harmonies of the 60s and 70s with contemporary musical theatre, Vanities explores how these women's warped view of the world shaped them for better and worse.

In a press statement, the show's creators, Heifner and Kirshenbaum, commented, “On the fortieth anniversary of the play Vanities, there's no better gift than having the musical version of the play open in London. This isn't just an American musical. It is a look into the lives of three girls who see nothing deeper than their reflection in the mirror. Given the wrong set of rules to live by, they find they are unprepared for the journey into a world that puts value on much more than just appearances. We’re thrilled that this show is finally being produced in London but moreover, that it's happening with these producers, this creative team, and this cast.”
