Todrick Hall will join the London cast of Shrek the Musical this summer, playing Donkey in the Jeanine Tesori and David Lindsay-Abaire musical adapted from the DreamWorks film.

Running at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith from July 19 to August 31, the production arrives in London straight from a major U.K. tour.

Hall joins the previously announced Antony Lawrence as Shrek, Joanne Clifton as Princess Fiona, James Gillan as Lord Farquaad, and Cherece Richards as Dragon.

No stranger to the stage, Hall made his Broadway debut in The Color Purple, was a member of the original Broadway cast of Memphis, and starred as Lola in Kinky Boots, Ogie in Waitress; and Billy Flynn in Chicago. He is currently originating the role of Sean in Burlesque in the U.K., for which he has also contributed multiple songs.

The fairytale world of Shrek is led by director-choreographer Nick Winston (Bonnie and Clyde, Beauty and the Beast), and co-director Sam Holmes (Club Tropicana the Musical), with set and costume designer Philip Witcomb (Bonnie and Clyde). Additional creative team members include lighting designer Ben Cracknell, sound designer Ben Harrison, and projection designer Nina Dunn.

The musical is based on the Academy Award-winnning DreamWorks animated franchise Shrek and was first performed on Broadway in 2008. The production received 8 Tony nominations, taking home the accolade for Best Costume Design, and was nominated for four Olivier awards, with performer Nigel Harman winning Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical.
