PREVIEWS:

Aug. 15: A.R. Gurney's residency continues at the Signature Theatre with the premiere of his new comedy Love & Money about wealthy widow Cornelia Cunningham, who is determined to donate almost everything she owns. Maureen Anderman plays the lead in this play about class, family, legacy and race.

OPENING:

Aug. 10: One of the Bard's rarely produced romantic dramas, Cymbeline is the summer's second production for Shakespeare in the Park. Helmed by Tony winner Daniel Sullivan, the Shakespearian fairy tale features a stellar cast that includes Hamish Linklater, multi-Tony nominee Raúl Esparza, Lily Rabe and Patrick Page.

Aug. 11: Fun Home's Tony-winning director Sam Gold reunites with longtime collaborator Annie Baker for the world premiere of John at the Signature Theatre. The two, whose creative partnership dates back several years, previously worked together on Baker's Pulitzer Prize-winning The Flick. The new work examines a disintegrating relationship set in a Gettysburg B&B, amongst the clutter of hundreds of watching objects.  

LAST CHANCE:

Aug. 9: It Shoulda Been You, the new musical comedy about a wedding gone awry that stars Tyne Daly, Harriet Harris, Lisa Howard and Sierra Boggess, ends its Broadway run. Catch Howard's show-stopping delivery of "Jenny's Blues" before its closing.

Aug. 9: New York City Ballet principal dancer and Theatre World Award winner Megan Fairchild departs the Broadway revival of On the Town, directed by Tony winner John Rando and choreographed by Joshua Bergasse. See a clip of Fairchild and Tony Yazbeck dancing the "Great Lover" ballet from the show.

Aug. 13: Broadway in Bryant Park concludes its free summer lunchtime series of performances from the best of on and Off-Broadway musicals. Hosted by 106.7 Lite FM, this week's final schedule is set to feature performances from The King and I and Spring Awakening.

Aug. 16: Joshua Harmon's Significant Other offers a portrait of a New York City single gay guy whose best friends are all getting married before his eyes. The play weaves laugh-out-loud humor with heartfelt observation. Read a Playbill.com singer staffer's experience of seeing the show solo

Aug. 16: Magicians Penn & Teller of the provocative New Vaudeville magician team, conclude their six-week return to Broadway in a show that offers a combination of stage magic from their Las Vegas performance and classics from their earlier repertoire.

 

SPECIAL EVENTS:

Aug. 8: Kristin Chenoweth, last seen on Broadway in her Tony-nominated turn in On the Twentieth Century, kicks off her 2015-16 concert tour at Deer Valley Snow Park Outdoor Ampitheather in Park City, UT. The star will continue to perform through May of next year. 

Aug. 12: In honor of The Wiz's 40th anniversary this year, the show's original choreographer George Faison presents performances of original songs and dances from the hit show on the summer stage in Central Park. A number of members of the Broadway cast return for this celebratory event including Phylicia Rashad, André De Shields and Dee Dee Bridgewater.

Aug. 14: The New York International Fringe Festival, the largest multi-arts festival in North America, kicks off its 19th year Aug. 14, running through Aug. 30 at 16 different venues in downtown Manhattan.

Aug. 16: Fans of the Broadway musical and subsequent cult film Grease can now sing along with the 1978 movie in a theater. Fathom Events and Turner Classic Movies team together to screen the sing-along version in 500 cinemas across the U.S.
