Tony Awards SIX's Toby Marlow Makes History With Tony Win

The SIX creator spoke about queer representation on Broadway following his win.

Toby Marlow has made Tony history with his win for Best Original Score as the first out nonbinary composer-lyricist to win a Tony Award. Marlow co-created SIX: The Musical with Lucy Moss, with whom he shares the win.

Following his win, Marlow spoke about how the honor feels in the press room. “It feels really amazing to be a part of a season where there’s so much queerness on stage explicitly," said Marlow. "Queerness in the people, in the actors, in the creators of the shows. It feels really wonderful, and I really hope that with more and more queer people storming Broadway, in lots of new and different ways, that that’ll be reflected more and more in the shows we’re watching, because representation is pretty fab. Love the queers. Happy Pride!”

The musical's costume designer Gabriella Slade has also won Best Costume Design for a musical; the show SIX is nominated for Best Musical.
