The upcoming concept album of the F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald biomusical The Fitzgeralds of St. Paul has assembled a starry cast. The project doesn't yet have a release date, and has launched a Kickstarter campaign to secure funding.
The album will feature performances from Raúl Esparza, Judy Kuhn, Julie Benko, Heidi Blickenstaff, Jewell Wilson Bridges, Jessica and Santino Fontana, Grace McLean, Shannon O’Boyle, Tiffany Topol, and Alysha Umphress, backed by an instrumental ensemble of 12.
The work, which features a book, music, and lyrics by Christie Baugher, centers on the marriage of the Great Gatsby author and his wife, Zelda, as they struggle with addiction, mental illness, and jealousy. The musical is a two-actor chamber work, but the forthcoming album will feature different performers on each song.
The musical recently received a preview production at Buffalo, New York's Irish Classical Theatre Company, performing November 8-24. Danny Mefford (Fun Home) directed and choreographed, with Matt Castle serving as music supervisor. Castle also penned the orchestrations along with producer Frank Galgano. Anne Kelly is also producing.
