Lea DeLaria, the actor–singer who earned a Theatre World Award and a Drama Desk Award nomination for her performance as a randy taxi driver in On the Town, will return to New York with her David Bowie tribute show, House of David: delaria+bowie=jazz October 24–28 at Birdland Jazz Club.
Joining her for the gig will be a parade of Broadway stars, including Norm Lewis (Porgy and Bess), Rachel Bay Jones (Dear Evan Hansen), and Sandra Bernhard (I’m Still Here...Damn It!)

Probably best known for her current TV role as Carrie “Big Boo” Black on the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black, DeLaria is basing this concert on her 2015 album, also titled House of David, which includes her renditions of Bowie hits including “Let’s Dance,” “Life on Mars,” “Modern Love,” and “Rebel Rebel.”
DeLaria, who also played Dr. Scott in the 2000 Broadway revival of The Rocky Horror Show, has focused her stage work on singing in recent years, playing Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Hollywood Bowl, The Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Sydney Opera House.
Tickets for the Birdland appearance cost $40–$50 plus a $10 food/beverage minimum.

Norm Lewis and Rachel Bay Jones have been a special guest performers on Playbill’s Broadway on the High Seas cruises.
