Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) and Universal Theatrical Group have announced casting for their upcoming regional premiere of The Secret of My Success, set to run at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts in Houston, Texas October 25-November 6.
Broadway alum Ben Fankhauser (Newsies) will lead the cast as Brantley Foster alongside Ashley Blanchett as Christy Lockhart. Joining them in the cast will be Broadway alum Sally Wilfert as Vera Prescott, Brian Mathis as Piers Johnson, Susan Koozin as Joann Foster, Melrose Johnson as Rose, Gemini Quintos as Lester Mann, Regina Hearne as Sylvia Popkin, and Ernie Lockhart as A.J. Dada.
The ensemble will feature Anthony Boggess-Glover, Austin Colburn, Jack Gereski, Miles Marmolejo, Trey Harrington, T.J. Newton, Chelsea Ryan McCurdy, Sarah Sachi, Briana Steptoe, Yasmyn Sumiyoshi, Holland Vavra, and Teresa Zimmermann. Lydia Berckley, Mariah Cooper, Izzy Harris, Lauren Schweers, Kyler Huyse, and Rizal Patagoc—all students from TUTS Humphreys School—will also be in the ensemble.
With themes of corporate culture, ambition, and making your own way, the comedic musical takes a look at "redefining what success means to you when the world around you changes."
TUTS Artistic Director Dan Knechtges (Lysistrata Jones) will direct and choreograph the work. The creative team will include music director Charlie Alterman, scenic designer Jeffrey D. Kmiec, costume designer Colleen Grady, lighting designer Ryan O'Gara, projection designer Mike Tutaj, sound designer Andrew Harper, and hair and makeup designer Kelley Jordan. Casting is by Calleri Jensen Davis Casting and by TUTS Associate Artistic Director Monique Midgette.
The Secret of My Success is based on the 1987 film of the same name starring Michael J. Fox, and features a book by Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen with music and lyrics by Michael Mahler and Alan Schmuckler. The comedy musical previously premiered in Chicago.
