The production officially opened at London's Playhouse Theatre Jan. 12, following previews that began Dec. 16, 2014.
Tamsin Greig, Haydn Gwynne, Jérôme Pradon and Anna Skellern lead the cast, and are joined by Willemijn Verkaik, Ricardo Alfonso and Haydn Oakley.
Additional cast members include Marianne Benedict, Holly James, Michael Matus, Rebecca McKinnis, Sarah Moyle, Alastair Natkiel, Nuno Queimado and Dale Rapley.
Originally based by Almodóvar on Jean Cocteau’s The Human Voice, the show portrays Pepa (Greig), Candela (Skellern) and Lucia (Gwynne) struggling for power over their own lives.
Greig, who plays Pepa, won the Laurence Olivier and Critics' Circle Awards for her performance in the RSC's Much Ado About Nothing. She has been Olivier-nominated this year for her performance in the show for Best Actress in a Musical. Gwynne, who play Lucia, was seen on the West End and Broadway stage as the original Mrs. Wilkinson in Billy Elliot the Musical, and most recently was seen as Mrs. Thatcher in The Audience at the Gielgud Theatre. She has been Olivier-nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical.
Pradon, who plays Ivan, was most recently seen in the French production of Mamma Mia! His West End credits include Whistle Down the Wind, Les Misérables, Miss Saigon, Martin Guerre, The Lord of the Rings and Pacific Overtures.
Skellern, who plays Candela, has appeared in London in Holding the Man (Trafalgar Studios) and The Vegemite Tales (The Venue). Verkaik, who plays Paulina, is best known for her role as Elphaba in the musical Wicked, which she has performed in London, Broadway, Germany and Holland. She has also played Scaramouche and Killer Queen in We Will Rock You, Amneris in Aida and the title role in Elisabeth.
Afonso, who plays the Taxi Driver, has appeared in the West End in Thriller Live (Lyric Theatre), We Will Rock You (Dominion) and Top Hat (Aldwych).
Oakley, who plays Carlos, recently starred as Gilbert Chilvers in the U.K. tour of Betty Blue Eyes. Other theatre credits include The Book of Mormon (Prince of Wales), Wonderful Town (2012 U.K. tour) and We Will Rock You (Dominion Theatre).
The production has been reconceived and re-imagined for the U.K. stage by its original Broadway director Bartlett Sher.
