Carole Demas and Sarah Rice, who originated the roles of Sandy in Grease and Joanna in Sweeney Todd, respectively, will salute the works of The Fantasticks songwriters Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt in the duo concert Thank You for Your Love in New York City.
Performances are scheduled for 1 PM February 4, and 7 PM February 8 at the Off-Broadway Laurie Beechman Theatre.
Demas and Rice each played Luisa in the record-breaking original run of The Fantasticks. The singing actors will share songs and memories in the concert, which will include “Try to Remember,” “My Cup Runneth Over,” “Soon It’s Gonna Rain,” and other songs from 110 in the Shade, I Do! I Do! and more Jones & Schmidt shows.
Demas’ other credits include Jones & Schmidt’s Philemon and The Bone Room, and she originated the role of Genevieve in the Stephen Schwartz musical The Baker’s Wife during its pre-Broadway tryout in Los Angeles. She co-starred in the children’s TV show The Magic Garden for more than a decade.
Rice, who can be heard on the original cast album of Sweeney Todd, has concentrated much of her career on light opera, appearing around the U.S. in productions including Daughter of the Regiment, Rigoletto, Candide, The Student Prince and Naughty Marietta, though she also performed in regional productions of musicals including The Music Man, Barnum, and Guys and Dolls. She has made several previous New York City club appearances as well.
Thank You For Your Love is being staged by Tony Award-nominated actor/director Charles Repole (Very Good Eddie, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes) with musical direction and accompanying vocals by Joe Goodrich. The concert also features harpist Maria Banks and veteran sound and video designer Stuart J. Allyn.
