Broadway veterans Carole Demas, who originated the role of Sandy in Grease, and Sarah Rice, who originated the role of Johanna in Sweeney Todd, have again teamed up to celebrate the music of Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, the team that wrote the scores of The Fantasticks, 110 in the Shade, and I Do! I Do!, among other musicals.
Titled Thank You for Your Love, the show, which was first presented in June at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in New York City, will play a return engagement at the same Off-Broadway venue 7 PM October 1 and 2 PM October 7
The two actors both performed the role of Luisa (The Girl) during the record-setting original run of The Fantasticks.
They said they have based their show on their 50 years of work and personal relationships with Jones and Schmidt, and plan to perform the team’s songs “Try to Remember,” “My Cup Runneth Over,” “Soon It’s Gonna Rain,” and others, with help from special guest, Hal Robinson.
Jones and Schmidt are scheduled to be honored with the Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Musical Theatre on December 4 in New York City.
