LaChiusa has written new material for the film, including a new song for McDonald's character. She and Cheyenne Jackson will share a scene together, Playbill.com has confirmed with the film's producers.
Hello Again has words and music by LaChiusa, and is suggested by Arthur Schnitzler's 1900 Vienna-set play La Ronde, which shows the connections made between ten related couples. Lincoln Center Theater produced the musical Off-Broadway in 1993-94; a cast album preserves the score.
In addition to six-time Tony winner McDonald (Porgy and Bess, Lady Day..., Ragtime) and Jackson (Xanadu, "American Horror Story"), the cast features Emmy winner Martha Plimpton (Pal Joey, "The Good Wife"), Emmy nominee T.R. Knight (It's Only a Play, "Grey's Anatomy"), Rumer Willis (Chicago, "Dancing with the Stars"), Jenna Ushkowitz ("Glee," Spring Awakening), Nolan Gerard Funk ("Awkward"), Sam Underwood ("The Following"), Tyler Blackburn ("Pretty Little Liars") and Al Calderon ("Stealing Cars").
Hello Again, according to the film's creators, "follows 10 lost souls who skip across 10 periods in New York City history, slipping in and out of one another's arms and beds in a daisy-chained exploration of lust’s bittersweet embrace of love."
Tom Gustafson ("Mariachi Gringo," "Were the World Mine") is directing the film, which has a screenplay by Cory Krueckeberg ("Getting Go," "Mariachi Gringo," "Were the World Mine").
The film is produced by Ash Christian, Tom Gustafson, Cory Krueckeberg and Hunter Arnold. Devon Schneider is co-producing. Gregory Rae and Carl D. White from Martian Entertainment are co-executive producers.
A timeline for the film's release has not been announced.
A five-time Tony Award nominee, LaChiusa has written the Broadway musicals The Wild Party, Marie Christine and Chronicle of a Death Foretold. His Off-Broadway credits include Hello Again, First Lady Suite, Little Fish, See What I Wanna See, The Petrified Prince, Bernarda Alba,Giant,Queen of the Mist and First Daughter Suite.
Created and performed by Sydney-based comedian and visual artist Sam Kissajukian, the show comes to New York directly from a sold-out engagement at Edinburgh Fringe Festival
