London's National Theatre begins a limited run of The Confessions, written and directed by Alexander Zeldin, October 19 in their Lyttelton Theatre. The run will continue through November 4.

Zeldin created The Confessions, an intimate portrait of his mother's life, following many hours of interviews with her in 2021. The play follows Alice and her complex relationships from 1943 Australia through 2021 London. The Confessions features music composed by founding member and lead vocalist of Foals, Yannis Philippakis.

Eryn Jean Norvill and Pamela Rabe make their U.K. stage debuts in the National Theatre run, in a company that also includes Joe Bannister, Amelda Brown, Jerry Killick, Lilit Lesser, Brian Lipson, Gabrielle Scawthorn, and Yasser Zadeh.

The play, a co-commission with the National Theatre, RISING Melbourne, and Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, already toured to Vienna, Athens, Barcelona, and Avignon this year. It will continue its European tour into spring 2024. This is the first production of Zeldin's own U.K. and France theatre companies, A Zeldin Company/Compagnie A Zeldin.

The production features set and costume design by Marg Howell, lighting design by Paule Constable, and sound design by Josh Anio Grigg. Imogen Knight serves as choreographer and movement director, Cathleen McCarron is voice director, and Fay Merralls and Sasha Milavic Davies are dramaturgs. Casting is by Jacob Sparrow, with Australian casting by Serena Hill.

Zeldin's Inequalities plays Beyond Caring, LOVE and Faith, and Hope and Charity were previously seen at the National Theatre. LOVE ran at New York City's Park Avenue Armory in January, receiving seven Drama Desk nominations.
