The American Music Hall was constructed at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue and opened May 22, 1893 as the American Theatre. Its most famous production was its first show, The Prodigal Daughter, which featured a steeplechase of ten live horses onstage. On December 8, 1930, a fire broke out and ruined the theatre; its doors never opened again.
