DESCRIPTION

WHO WE ARE
En Garde Arts (EGA) is a not for profit theatrical producing organization in New York City. We are purposefully itinerant, creating site-specific, place-based theatre, developing partnerships with theatres where we can use our expertise to bring the work into communities. We commission new plays, musicals and theatrical experiences with social justice issues at their core. We engage in long-term relationships with artists and develop most of our new projects over multiple years within a program called Uncommon Voices. We have a small full time staff of three, complemented by a permanent part-time general manager, and three consultants: a business manager, senior grant writer and creative producer in residence. We embrace risk and are devoted to getting our messages across to communities that may not ordinarily attend the theatre. Our annual budgets vary from $600,000-$1,000,000, depending on projects.

WHO YOU ARE
You have a great passion for theater and a minimum of 5-7 years experience in another New York City based not for profit live arts organization. You have a familiarity with all aspects of running a mid-sized company, from administrative needs, to website and social media maintenance, to production budgets, contracts, schedules and fundraising. You enjoy taking responsibility for projects from soup to nuts, and also know how to ask for support when needed. You are someone who sees the big picture alongside the details, and can balance long-term and short-term projects and planning. You thrive in a collaborative, ever-evolving working environment, and enjoy being a part of the producing and planning processes for an organization and its projects. You have a penchant for risks and enjoy being a changemaker and participating in testing out new ideas. You enjoy being around strong personalities – which prevail in this company – and are comfortable speaking up as well as listening. You have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, GoogleSuite, Dropbox, Audienceview, Mailchimp, social media platforms and experience with Wordpress.

WHAT YOU WOULD DO
The Managing Producer (MP) will report to the Executive Artistic Director (EAD) and partner with staff and consultants to manage all aspects of EGA - from institutional maintenance and growth, to producing readings, workshops and full productions. EGA’s annual activities include: -1-3 special events, including an annual gala and smaller cultivation events. -3-6 Uncommon Voices workshops/activities -1-3 Playdate! Outdoor performance sharings in the Artistic Director’s backyard or other public spaces -1-2 full productions -1-2 presentations The MP would act as the lead producer for all annual activities; leading scheduling, hiring, contracting, company communications and venue logistics, at times hiring in Line Producers and/or Company Managers for larger productions, along with Production Managers and other specialized temporary staff. The MP would support the EAD on the season planning, work with the Development team on fundraising strategies, and work with the Consulting General Manager and Business Manager on the organizational and project-specific budgets and financial management. The MP oversees all institutional and project-based marketing, press and social media efforts, including eblast creation, social media postings and strategy, show programs, marketing collateral and graphic design. As needed, the MP can hire consultants and designers to augment these efforts. Development of community engagement relationships, as workload allows, and as it plays to your strengths and interests. All staff members collectively share the general administrative tasks for the organization, with each employee being responsible for different areas. Overseeing interns or other project-based hires is also a part of this job. Salary of $72,500. Full-time Exempt. Beginning in 2025, EGA will begin offering a $500/month health insurance stipend to all full time staff. We are a hybrid work environment (3 days/week in office), and provide generous vacation and PTO, including summer fridays.
