Produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Colin Callender and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The critically acclaimed production received its world premiere in July 2016 at the Palace Theatre in London. Since its premiere, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has won 24 major British theatre awards including the Evening Standard Best Play Award as well as a record-breaking nine Olivier Awards – the most awarded production in the history of the Oliviers. The Broadway production has subsequently won 25 major Broadway accolades, including five Drama Desk awards, six Outer Critics Circle awards and six Tony awards.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Assistant Carpenter/Deck Automation Operator is responsible for the safety and operation of the scenic and automation elements that interact with the stage of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. They are responsible for the safe use and operation of the scenic and automation equipment on a day-to-day basis and will run automation cues during the show. Touring a live theater production is a unique and fast paced environment. You must be able to handle stressful situations and find solutions to problems quickly. The successful candidate for this position will have experience loading shows in and out, have knowledge of theatrical rigging systems, and will be a self-starter.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Load In / Out show at each venue at the highest level possible, conducting tasks in a safe manner while trying to stay on the schedule set by the Head Carpenter.
• Operation of show automation equipment in a safe and repeatable manner.
• Inspection of show equipment at preset of each performance, reports to be submitted to head carpenter and production management.
• Maintains and troubleshoots mechanics including lifts, sloat lids, and turntable.
• Maintains and troubleshoots console, drives, racks, winches etc.
• Regular participation in work calls, and rehearsal as directed by stage management and head carpenter.
• Arrival on time and ready for work at the start of each call.
• Regular communication of issues with Automation with Head Carpenter, Production Management, and Shop Personnel

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIRED SKILLS
• Extensive Scenic carpentry experience. Including: woodworking, metalworking, basic mechanics, fabric repairs, etc.
• Extensive chain motor operation, maintenance, and repair experience.
• Understanding of scenic drawing, specifically hanging plan as well as ability to decipher necessary rigging paperwork provided by head carpenter.
• Extensive theatrical rigging knowledge including counterweight set operation and maintenance. Experience with single and double purchase systems as well as familiarity with automated systems.
• Extensive experience setting up and operating complex multi axis automation systems.
• Proficient and Familiar with PRG Stage Command Software and Stage Commander Hardware.
• Working knowledge of networking technology.
• Ability to maintain composure under pressure.
• Ability to quickly assess a problem and communicate issues in a clear and concise manner.
• Responsive to Management queries and direction, including during performances as issues arise.
PREFERRED SKILLS
• Min 1 years’ experience working on an IATSE Full Pink Contract.
• Min 1 years’ experience on a touring or Broadway show.
• Min 1 years’ experience running theatrical automation.
• Knowledge of or experience in several road venues throughout the country.
SALARY & BENEFITS
$2,600/week; Overtime per IATSE Full Pink Contract. Benefits Per IATSE Full Pink Contract

All travel and housing will be per IATSE Full Pink Contract.
