Warm and inquisitive. Confident partner to Albert who may know a bit more than he does.

Albert’s second wife who steals him away from Mileva. We love to dislike her.

Lovable but egotistical and brilliant mentor to Albert who first discovered the existence of Quanta...by accident.

Marcel is Albert and Besso’s sweet, genuine and deep-feeling confidant. He is too good for this world and a little goofy / Eduard is Albert’s son - plays ages 8-13 for the purpose of this reading.

  • LENARD / PRINCETON PROFESSOR / OTHERS - [Female Identifying or Non-Binary, 30’s; HIGH ALTO]
Lenard and Professor both represent adversaries particularly during Albert’s later discoveries and the dropping of the atom bomb.

Weber was Albert’s first adversary. Judgemental and set in their ways, trying to keep progress from progressing.

A New Play by ALIX SOBLER

Your high school best friend, super-smart with a valley-girl accent, somewhat bored housewife with the brain of a hard-ass lawyer.

Super supportive husband who may have reached his breaking point, honest to a fault, practical as hell, madly in love with Alix and shows it by doing the dishes.
  • MOM / SHELTERED — [Any Gender, Race and Age]
Mom is an angel who is a memory of a memory / Sheltered is a new play just trying to survive, reliant on Alix like a pet but demanding like a lover, a figment of Alix’s imagination but more real than a lot of real people.
  • DR. NASH / DAVIS — [Any Gender, Race and Age]
Dr. Nash is an imagined therapist, extremely smart, somewhat inappropriate, over Alix’s shit / Davis is a lawyer from Central Casting, all business, sometimes bored, often exasperated, good at their job.

Coyote is the shape-shifting god of music, dancing, and mischief. Often depicted with a mustache in human form. A mixture of charro, norteño, and mariachi (though, less mariachi) / Papá is Roja’s father who passed away under mysterious circumstances three years prior to the start of our play.
  • DON SECO / THE CROW — [NON-AEA Male Identifying to play 30’s +, Bilingual; BARITENOR]
Don Seco is the wealthy landowner who has allowed the Flores family to work the land since Roja was born / The Crow is the spirit of logic and wisdom. They are a legion of thousands in the form of only one.
