News Writers Theatre Announces Parade and New PigPen Theatre Co. Musical The Illinois organization has announced its 25th anniversary season.

The Writers Theatre in Glencoe, IL, has announced the line-up for its 25th anniversary season. The six-show slate will include the Tony-winning musical Parade, a world premiere adaptation of Julius Caesar and a collaboration with Ars Nova, PigPen Theatre Co. and Manhattan Theatre Club. It will also mark the organization’s inaugural season in its new theatre center.

The season will kick off in September with a new adaptation of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, adapted by Michael Halberstam and Scott Parkinson, with direction by Halberstam. The new interpretation is billed as “both epic in scale and arrestingly intimate.” Performances will run September 7 through October 23.

Beginning December 7, WT will stage the world premiere of The Hunter and the Bear, written by PigPen Theatre Co., and presented in collaboration with New York’s Ars Nova and Manhattan Theatre Club. Part ghost-story, part modern-day fable, the new work follows a hunter father’s search for his son in the woods. The haunting tale will be “cast in flickering campfire light,” according to production notes. Directed by PigPen Theatre Co.’s Stuart Carden, performances are scheduled to run through January 22, 2017. PigPen earned acclaimed for its Off-Broadway musical The Old Man and the Old Moon.

Beginning May 24, 2017 the theatre will stage a revival of Alfred Uhry and Jason Robert Brown’s hit musical, Parade. The Tony-winning piece tells the story of Leo Frank, a Jewish man who was wrongly accused of murder in 1913. The production will be helmed by Gary Griffin, who directed Brown’s Honeymoon in Vegas. Performances are scheduled to run through July 9.

The season will also include, Eugene Lee’s East Texas Hot Links (October 19 – January), Theresa Rebeck’s The Scene (Feburary 22 – April 2) and Bathsheba Doran’s The Mystery of Love and Sex (April 5 – July 9).
