Reviews are coming in for Lloyd Suh's The Chinese Lady, which opened March 8 at The Public’s Shiva Theater. The production from Ma-Yi Theater Company began previews February 23 and is set to run through April 10.
Shanon Tyo and Daniel K. Isaac reprise their roles as Afong Moy and Atung, respectively. Inspired by a true story, The Chinese Lady follows 16-year-old Afong Moy who immigrates to 1834 New York and became a living exhibit, traveling the United States across decades and watching as the nation struggles to define itself.
