The Muppets are back in Manhattan! Elmo, Cookie Monster, Grover, and the whole Sesame Street gang are heading Off-Broadway, and to celebrate, Elmo took a trip to Broadway stalwart Sardi's to draw his own caricature. Watch above!
Sesame Street the Musical, an adaptation of the beloved children's television show, will feature new songs by composers Tom Kitt, Helen Park, and Nate Edmondson. As previously reported, the world premiere musical from Rockefeller Productions and Sesame Workshop will run September 8–November 27 at Theatre Row.
In addition to the new tunes, the show will feature classic songs from the television series, all sung by Sesame Street characters like Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, Grover, Rosita, Bert, Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, The Count, and more—in their original puppet forms. Like the TV show, the stage musical also promises Broadway celebrity guest stars.
Kitt and Park will both be represented on Broadway this season with new shows: Almost Famous and KPOP, respectively. Edmondson previously collaborated with Rockefeller Productions on another recent Off-Broadway puppet production, Disney’s Winnie the Pooh: The New Musical Stage Adaptation.
Sesame Street the Musical is written, directed, and produced by Jonathan Rockefeller.
