The new Off-Broadway musical—featuring beloved Sesame Street characters like Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, Grover, Rosita, Bert, Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, The Count, and more—will offer two special sensory-friendly performances.
Slated for October 19 at 11 AM and November 16 at 11 AM, these performances will include lowered audio and raised house lighting. Fidgets and designated relaxation spaces will be available and no shushing is allowed.
“We are excited to be hosting special sensory-friendly performances for audiences who will benefit from a relaxed theatergoing experience. We join with Sesame Workshop in working towards inclusion for any special needs child or adult, or anyone on the autism spectrum. Creating accessible theatre is at the core mission of our company, and we are thrilled to welcome those of all ages and abilities to enjoy their favorite friends from Sesame Street on the theatre stage,” said show creator and director Jonathan Rockefeller in a statement.
The Off-Broadway show from Rockefeller Productions and Sesame Workshop features live puppetry and songs from the television show, as well as new compositions by Tom Kitt (Almost Famous), Helen Park (KPOP), and Nate Edmondson. It began previews September 8 at Theatre Row and will run through November 27.
