Jeremy Jordan thought he knew what to expect when he said yes to doing a concert version of Bonnie & Clyde The Musical in London in 2022. "It was wild. I showed up on a red-eye flight, and did a full day of rehearsal," said Jordan. He also showed up to a cast that had already been rehearsing for a week and were off-book (Jordan was a last-minute replacement). And it wasn't even a concert with music stands—there were props, costumes, even blood. "What have I agreed to?" Jordan recalled thinking.
His whirlwind experience is now captured for all to see in Bonnie & Clyde The Musical: Filmed Live. See how he got through that concert in the video interview above with Playbill's Jeffrey Vizcaíno.
Bonnie & Clyde The Musical: Filmed Live, recorded in January 2022 during two concert performances at London's Theatre Royal Drury Lane, is available to stream on demand beginning June 24.
Bonnie & Clyde, about the real-life outlaws of the same name, features music by Tony nominee nominee Frank Wildhorn, lyrics by Tony winner Don Black, and a book by Emmy nominee Ivan Menchell.
Jordan stars as as Clyde Barrow, the part he originated in the musical's 2011 Broadway production, opposite Frances Mayli McCann, who originated the role of Bonnie Parker in the West End. The show had a short run on Broadway though has amassed a fan following in the years after.
"I talked to a couple of people who are up and coming in theatre and they've all told me that Bonnie & Clyde was one of the things that got them excited," explains Jordan. "And I think it was the fact that it was bold and unapologetic. For some reason it didn't connect at the time and has a developed a huge cult following." He then adds, playfully with a slight drawl, "Who doesn't like shooting guns and running from the law?"
