Cody Spencer has received his first Tony Award for Best Sound Design of a Musical for The Outsiders. Watch Spencer react to his win in the video above, in an interview with Playbill's Jeffrey Vizcaíno.
"This is my first season with three shows, and I was nominated for two and I won for one—it's crazy," Spencer says. "It kind of feels like I belong here. I'm a little surprised that I was recognized so much, and that I also won, it's amazing."
Spencer was nominated twice in the category, with the other nod for his sound design work on Here Lies Love alongside co-designer M.L. Dogg. He also co-designed the sound for Gutenberg! in the 2023–24 season. Spencer will serve as sound designer for Broadway's upcoming productions Job and Romeo and Juliet.
