Broadway News Tom Hewitt Is Ruler of Underworld in Broadway's Hadestown Starting January 3

The Tony-winning musical continues at the Walter Kerr Theatre.

Tom Hewitt, Amber Gray, Eva Noblezada, and Reeve Carney

The Rocky Horror Show Tony nominee Tom Hewitt succeeds fellow Tony nominee Patrick Page as ruler of the Underworld Hades in the Tony-winning musical Hadestown starting January 3. Page played his final performance at the Walter Kerr Theatre December 30, 2022.

Hewitt reopened the hit production post-pandemic in September 2021 while Page finished a film commitment. His numerous other Broadway credits include Amazing Grace; Doctor Zhivago; Jesus Christ Superstar; Dracula, the Musical; The Boys From Syracuse; Chicago; Art; The School for Scandal; The Sisters Rosensweig; and The Lion King.

Hewitt joins a cast that currently features Jewelle Blackman as Persephone, Grammy winner Reeve Carney as Orpheus, two-time Tony nominee Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, and Tony winner Lillias White with Amelia Cormack, Soara-Joye Ross, and Shea Renne as the Fates. The chorus of Workers is played by Emily Afton, Malcolm Armwood, Alex Puette, Trent Saunders, and Grace Yoo, and the swings are Brandon Cameron, Tara Jackson, Max Kumangai, and Yael "YaYa" Reich.

Singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell’s folk- and jazz-infused musical layers the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice with that of Hades and Persephone, intertwining the actions—and consequences—of gods and mortals. Hadestown originally began as a theatrical concert performed by Mitchell.

The creative team features Tony-winning director Rachel Chavkin, Tony-winning set designer Rachel Hauck, Tony-nominated costume designer Michael Krass, Tony-winning lighting designer Bradley King, Tony-winning sound designers Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz, choreographer David Neumann, and dramaturg Ken Cerniglia. Musical supervision and vocal arrangements are by Liam Robinson, with arrangements and orchestrations by Tony winners Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose.
