All three plays are set to be staged at New York City Center – Stage I as part of MTC's 2015-16 season.
Kicking off this fall is the David Hyde Pierce-helmed Ripcord, which begins previews Sept. 29. Lindsay-Abaire is the award-winning author of Rabbit Hole, Fuddy Meers and Good People. His newest comedy, Ripcord, is described as both "inappropriate" and "hilarious," as it follows two elderly women in a no-holds-barred battle of the wills - to the death.
In the lead roles are Emmy winner and Tony nominee Holland Taylor (Ann, "Two and a Half Men") and Drama Desk Award winner Marylouise Burke (Kimberly Akimbo, Fuddy Meers). The cast also features Rachel Dratch ("SNL"), Glenn Fitzgerald (Hamlet), Daoud Heidami (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo) and Nate Miller (Peter and the Starcatcher). An official opening night for Ripcord is scheduled for Oct. 10.
Debuting in 2016 will be Shanley's Prodigal Son, which he will also direct. Beginning performances Jan. 19, 2016, the cast is led by Timothée Chalamet — who played young Tom in the Oscar-winning film "Interstellar" and Finn in the hit TV series "Homeland" — alongside Tony winner Robert Sean Leonard (The Invention of Love, Long Day's Journey Into Night). The play is billed as an "explosive portrait of a young man on the verge of salvation or destruction." The story follows a teenage boy from the Bronx, played by Chalamet, who is suddenly thrown into the world of a private school in New Hampshire. An official opening night is set for Feb. 9.
Next spring MTC will present Payne's Icognito, directed by Tony winner Doug Hughes (Doubt). Following his acclaimed Broadway hit Constellations, Payne's newest work interweaves the stories of a pathologist who steals the brain of Albert Einstein, a neuropsychologist experiencing her first romance and a seizure patient who forgets everything but how much he loves his girlfriend. Performances will begin May 3, 2016, with an official opening night set for May 24.
