The California theatre has announced initial casting for its 50th Anniversary production.

A Little Night Music at Pasadena Playhouse

California's Pasadena Playhouse has found the cast for its 50th anniversary production of A Little Night MusicThe Tony-winning musical, based on Ingmar Bergman's film Smiles of a Summer Night, will begin April 25 and continue through May 21. Opening night is set for April 30.

The cast will be led by Broadway alums Merle Dandridge (The Last of Us, Once on this Island) as Desirée Armfeldt, Michael Hayden (Murder One, Carousel) as Fredrik Egerman, and Jodi Long (Dash & Lily, Flower Drum Song) as Madame Armfeldt. Also starring will be Broadway's Sarah Uriarte Berry (Les Misérables) as Countess Charlotte Malcolm, Chase Del Rey (King Richard) as Henrik Egerman, Adam James King (In The Heights) as Frid, Broadway's Ruby Lewis (Cirque du Soleil Paramour) as Petra, Broadway's Ryan Silverman (Side Show) as Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm, and Broadway's Kaley Ann Voorhees (Prince of Broadway) as Anne Egerman. 

The cast also includes Georgia Belmont as Mrs. Nordstrom, Jared Bybee as Mr. Lindquist, Kim Dawson as Mrs. Segstrom, Oriana Falla as Mrs. Anderssen, Arnold Geis as Mr. Erlanson, and Christanna Rowader as a standby for Countess Charlotte Malcolm and Desiree Armfeldt. 

David Lee is directing the Sondheim-Hugh Wheeler musical, which features the Sondheim classic "Send in the Clowns." Casting is by JZ Casting. Additional casting and creative team will be announced at a later date.

Set in 1900 Sweden, the work follows actress Desirée Armfeldt, the affairs she is entangled in, and the men who love her. When everyone gathers at the country estate of Desirée's mother, new romances and second chances bloom in surprising ways.

The production is presented as part of the theatre's six-month celebration of the work and impact of the late, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim during its 2022-2023 season. Launched in January with a production of Sondheim and James Lapine's Into the Woods, the celebration currently presents Sondheim and James Lapine's Pulitzer Prize-winning Sunday in the Park With George through March 19.
