Wishing to Grow Up Brightly, a new musical created by Amanda Morton (Gutenberg! The Musical, KPOP), Matthew Decker (La La Land), Josh Totora, and Brenson Thomas, will have its world premiere at Pennsylvania's Theatre Horizon in November. Decker is set to direct.
The work follows South Korean adoptee Amanda Newton returns to her childhood home after her father's death to pack up the house alongside her mother. What begins as a difficult task soon spirals into a whirlwind of grief, identity, and unanswered questions about her adoption when Amanda discovers that her father’s memories have been digitized by reMemorex, a corporate service designed to preserve the voices of the departed.
Wishing to Grow Up Brightly features a book by Decker, Morton, and Thomas; lyrics by Morton and Totora; and music by Totora.
Theatre Horizon will also stage Murray Horwitz and Richard Maltby, Jr.'s Ain't Misbehavin' in May 2026. The Tony-winning musical celebration of Fats Waller brings the jazz houses of the 1920s and 1930s to life, featuring hits like "Honeysuckle Rose," "It's a Sin to Tell a Lie," "I Can't Give You Anything But Love, Baby," and more.
Additional productions for the company's 2025-2026 season will be announced at a later date.
