Kicking off its four-week limited engagement, Pulitzer Prize finalist Eric Bogosian's Drinking in America begins previews at Audible's Minetta Lane Theatre March 10. The Off-Broadway run will open March 19.
The Wire's Andre Royo (Tthe 24 Hour Plays) stars under the direction of Mark Armstrong (The 24 Hour Plays) as over a dozen characters, all of whom are intoxicated. The comic exploration of the modern American male psyche was first performed in 1986, and now coincides with contemporary conversations about toxic masculinity and male fragility.
The creative team is comprised of scenic designer Kristen Robinson, costume designer Sarita Fellows, lighting designer Jeff Croiter, sound designer John Gromada, dialect and vocal coach Kate Wilson, movement director Adesola Osakalumi, and production stage manager Bess Marie Glorioso. Technical supervision is by Hudson Theatrical Associates with general management by Baseline Theatrical’s Andy Jones and Jonathan Whitton.
The show is also participating in the upcoming 20at20 promotion from The Off Broadway Alliance, which offers $20 tickets for participating Off-Broadway plays and musicals 20 minutes before curtain time.
Drinking in America is produced in association with Andrew D. Hamingson and William Russo of ADH Theatricals. The production marks Bogosian's first return to the theatre since his Obie-winning play Pounding Nails in the Floor in 1994; it will be recorded and released at a future date on Audible as an audio play for Audible listeners everywhere.
