The Lonely Few, a new musical love story, opens at Los Angeles' Geffen Playhouse March 9. The world premiere, which began previews February 28, will run through April 9 at the Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater. The space is transformed into the dive bar Paul's Joint, complete with table seating, couches, and barstools, in addition to traditional theatre seating.

With a book by Rachel Bonds (Sundown, Yellow Moon; Michael & Edie), music and lyrics by Zoe Sarnak (A Crossing, Galileo), and directed by Trip Cullman (Choir Boy, Significant Other) and Ellenore Scott (Funny Girl, Mr. Saturday Night), The Lonely Few centers on Lila, a woman struggling with life in her Kentucky hometown where she cares for her erratic brother while working a survival job at the local Save-A-Lot. While playing a gig with her hometown band, she meets Amy, a rugged road musician who offers her the chance to live the life Lila never dared to dream of, if only Lila can find the confidence to say yes.

Tony winner Lauren Patten (Jagged Little Pill, Fun Home) and Ciara Renée (Frozen, Waitress) lead the production as Lila and Amy, respectively. They are joined by Joshua Close (Fargo, Solace) as Adam, Damon Daunno (Oklahoma!, Hadestown) as Dylan, Helen J Shen (Man of God, Hair) as JJ, and Thomas Silcott (Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk, Becky Nurse of Salem) as Paul.

The Lonely Few features scenic design by Sibyl Wickersheimer, costume design by Samantha C. Jones, lighting design by Adam Honoré, and sound design by Nick Kourtides

Myrna Conn serves as music director, and Bryan Perri is the music supervisor and orchestrator. Tré Cotton is the dialect and voice coach, Sasha Nicolle Smith is the intimacy director, and Phaedra Michelle Scott is the dramaturg. The Lonely Few is produced in association with FourthWall Theatrical (This American Wife, Jagged Little Pill).
