The upcoming West End revival of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, set to star Tom Holland as previously announced, has found its full cast. Jamie Lloyd (Sunset Boulevard, The Effect) is directing the new production for his newly independent production company, The Jamie Lloyd Company.
Performances are set to begin May 11 at London's Duke of York's Theatre with opening night newly revealed for May 23. Performances will continue through August 3.
Joining Holland as Romeo will be Francesca Amewudah-Rivers as Juliet, Freema Agyeman as Nurse, Michael Balogun as Friar, Tomiwa Edun as Capulet, Mia Jerome as Montague, Daniel Quinn-Toye as Paris, Ray Sesay as Tybalt, Nima Taleghani as Benvolio, and Joshua-Alexander Williams as Mercutio. Camera operators Callum Heinrich and Kody Mortimer will round out the company.
“I'm so grateful to be making my West End debut as Juliet with The Jamie Lloyd Company," says Amewudah-Rivers in a statement. "It's a dream to be joining this team of incredible artists with Jamie at the helm. I'm excited to bring a fresh energy to this story alongside Tom, and to welcome new audiences to the theatre."
Much of the run's tickets sold within hours of going on sale, but the production is not sold out as has been widely reported. A new batch of 5,000 tickets—available at £25 exclusively for under 30s, key workers, and those receiving government benefits—will go on sale April 10 at 10 AM GMT.
Holland, now a rising film star perhaps best known as the current Spider-Man, got his professional start on stage in the West End production of Billy Elliot The Musical, playing Billy's friend Michael and later the title role. Romeo & Juliet will be Holland's second West End outing.
The production will feature text editing by Nima Taleghani, set and costume design by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Jon Clark, sound design by Ben and Max Ringham, video design and cinematography by Nathan Amzi and Joe Ransom, music by Michael 'Mikey J' Asante, movement by Sarah Golding and Yukiko Masui, and intimacy coordination by Ingrid Mackinnon. Casting is by Stuart Burt.
The revival is being produced by The Jamie Lloyd Company and David Binder Productions.
