Karen Hartman's The Lucky Star, running through June 12 as part of 59E59's VOLT Festival, tells the true story of a family torn apart by war.
Directed by Noah Himmelstein, the creative team also includes Daniel Ettinger for scenic design, David Burdick for costume design, Cory Pattak for lighting design, Elisheba Ittoop for sound design, and Caite Hevner for projection design. Douglas Denoff serves as producer, and casting is by Stephanie Klapper Casting.
Adapted from Richard Hollander's book Every Day Lasts a Year: A Jewish Family's Correspondence from Poland, The Lucky Star has had two sold-out runs under the title The Book of Joseph at Everyman Theatre in Baltimore and at Chicago Shakespeare Theater, which first commissioned it.
59E59's VOLT Festival features three New York City premieres by one underrepresented writer. Hartman is the inaugural playwright at the focus of this year's festival. Visit 59E59.org.
