Special Features Remembering the First Ever Broadway on the High Seas The wintery weather has us longing for the luxurious sunny days aboard the Playbill cruise.
Broadway on the High Seas 7 in Italy Carmen Scialfi

Five years ago, Playbill began its Broadway on the High Seas travel—a series of luxury cruises to stunning destinations across the world featuring solo shows from Broadway’s highest caliber of talent each night of the journey, and we can't help wishing we were back on that trip as winter finally descends on NYC. That very first Playbill cruise sailed from Rome, Italy to Portofino, Monte Carlo, Florence, Sorrento, Positano, Taormina, Corfu, Kotor, and Venice. Tony winners Christine Ebsersole, Andrea Martin, Debra Monk, and Brian Stokes Mitchell joined Broadway personality and SiriusXM host Seth Rudetsky for our maiden voyage. It was aboard Regent Seven Seas’ Mariner that we knew we had created an incredible experience for Broadway fans and Playbill readers, and that it would not be our last.

Highlights From the "Broadway on the High Seas" Cruise

Since 2011, we have traveled to South America, the Baltic Sea, French Polynesia, southeast Asia, the Caribbean, and more. Our stars have included titans of the theatre including Patti LuPone, Liz Callaway, Marin Mazzie, Jason Daniely, Lewis Black, Sherie Renee Scott, Norm Lewis, Tommy Tune, Lillias White, Roger Bart, Ana Gastayer, Christine Pedi, Laura Benanti, Megan Hilty, Cheyenne Jackson, Donna McKechnie, Paulo Szot, Kerry Butler, Jen Cody, Hunter Foster, Rachel York—the list goes on and on.

Highlights from Broadway on the High Seas 5, a Star-Studded Tour From Saigon to Singapore!

This past fall, on our seventh cruise (eighth trip overall, including Broadway by the Sea), we paid homage to that first trip by revisiting Rome, Sorrento and Taormina, but sailing further down the Italian Riviera to visit Trapani, Valetta, and Bonifacio, France. This time, we boasted a roster of over a dozen stars, including Chita Rivera, Faith Prince, Brenda Braxton, Adam Pascal, Jennifer Simard, Lindsay Mendez, Laura Osnes, Kate Baldwin, Douglas Carter Beane, Andréa Burns, Seth Rudetsky, Lilla Crawford, and Charles Busch.

The week was full of unbelievable sights and delicious Italian cuisine, insightful talkbacks with award-winning playwrights, hilarious interviews with Seth and the stars, and, of course, unrepeatable performances. From duets pairing stars who had never before sung together, like Chita Rivera and her daughter, Tony nominee Lisa Mordente, to reunions like Laura Osnes and Lindsay Mendez singing from Grease (in which they starred in 2007), moments from BOHS7 will forever stay in the hearts and minds—and ears!—of the lucky passengers aboard the Silver Seas Silver Wind.

Don’t miss out on our next adventures! Broadway on the High Seas 8 departs from San Juan, Puerto Rico and explores the picturesque islands of the Caribbean from February 17-24, 2017. We’ve got an overpacked roster including Tony winner Brian Stokes Mitchell, four-time Tony nominee Judy Kuhn, Tony nominee Howard McGillin, Tony nominee Melissa Errico, Emmy nominee Ernie Sabella, Tony nominee Louise Pitre, Tony nominee Tony Yazbeck, Tony winner Alice Ripley, Karen Mason, with MC Bryan Batt, Chatterbox host Seth Rudetsky, and Grammy-winning music director John McDaniel.
