Rachel Bloom, the Emmy-winning co-creator and star of the television musical comedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, made her Off-Broadway debut September 14 when her solo show, Death, Let Me Do My Show, officially opened at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. Go inside the starry evening in photos below, which included appearances from Bloom's on-screen mother Tovah Feldshuh and a masked Patti LuPone (LuPone guest-starred in an episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend).
In the new work, Bloom sets out to do the show she wrote in 2019, prior to the pandemic, but is derailed and forced to confront the events of 2020. Of course, she does it with her own unique musical comic flair, sometimes blue and tinged with the absurd. See what the critics had to say about it here. Death, Let Me Do My Show runs until September 30.
Directed by Seth Barrish, who directed both of Mike Birbiglia's solo outings on Broadway, Death, Let Me Do My Show features a script by Bloom, with songs co-written by Bloom and several songwriting collaborators, including Shaina Taub and music director Jerome Kurtenbach.
