Provincetown Theater will present its second annual Provincetown American Playwright Award August 3 to Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel for her contributions to the American theatre.
Established last year by the Provincetown Theater, the first recipient, Tony-winning playwright Terrence McNally, will present Vogel with her PAPA, which is given to an American playwright whose work has enriched, empowered, and expanded the depth and scope of the American experience on the world stage.
In a statement, Provincetown Theater Artistic Director David Drake said, “No one has blazed that trail with such searing intellect, compassion, and life-long diligence as Paula Vogel. To the arts in the United States, she is a true American hero.”
“What a thrill, what an honor to receive the second annual PAPA award,” added Vogel. “It is all the sweeter to me to follow in Terrence McNally’s remarkable footsteps, and I love receiving an award here in the birthplace of American theatre.”
The playwright will receive her award at an intimate dinner ceremony at the home of designer Ken Fulk and his partner Kurt Wootton August 3. For ticket information, click here.
