Oscar Isaac and Greta Gerwig will return to the New York stage to star in an adaptation of Chekhov's Three Sisters. Sam Gold will direct the New York Theatre Workshop production, which will round out the Off-Broadway company's 2019–2020 season.
Isaac reunites with both NYTW and Gold after taking on the title role in Hamlet in 2017. Gerwig, a double Oscar nominee for Lady Bird, previously appeared Off-Broadway in MCC Theater's The Village Bike, also helmed by Gold.
Also newly added to the current lineup is Celine Song's Endlings, which recently made its world premiere at the American Repertory Theater. Sammi Cannold will direct the early 2020 presentation, which explores identity-driven storytelling through the lens of three elderly "sea women" on the Korean island of Man-Jae and a Korean-Canadian playwright living in Manhattan.
The two titles join the previously announced double bill of NYTW Usual Suspect Mfoniso Udofia’s runboyrun and In Old Age, as well as a stage adaptation of the indie movie musical Sing Street and Pulitzer Prize winner and NYTW veteran Martyna Majok's Sanctuary City.Exact dates and full casting and creative teams will be announced later.
