Westway Music, along with The Theatre Cafe, will release a new tribute album to the music of composer Stephen Schwartz. Titled Schwartz Songs, the record will feature material from some of Schwartz's most beloved shows, including Prince of Egypt, Pippin, Children of Eden, Wicked, Godspell, and more.
A six-time Tony winner, Schwartz has also amassed three Grammy Awards, three Academy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and an Olivier Award across his 50-year career.
Schwartz Songs will showcase an array of West End talent, including Marisha Wallace, Trevor Dion Nicholas, Samantha Barks, Jamie Muscato, Lucie Jones, Louise Dearman, Kerry Ellis, Rachel Tucker, Billy Luke Nevers, John Owen-Johns, Oliver Tompsett, Rob Houchen, Hiba Elchikhe, Alice Fearn, Rachel John, Peter Joback, Jamie Lambert, Jordan Luke Gage, and Emma Kingston.
The opening track of the record, "Defying Gravity" from Wicked, is performed by four of the West End production's leading ladies: Kerry Ellis, Rachel Tucker, Lucie Jones, and Alice Fearn. The track will be released June 21.
Schwartz Songs will be released digitally and in CD format on June 28, with a double vinyl release arriving August 9. For more information, visit Slinky.to.
