Michael Feingold Wins Nathan Award | Playbill

News Michael Feingold Wins Nathan Award Michael Feingold, longtime theatre critic for the Village Voice and currently a columnist for the website TheaterMania, has been named winner of the 2013-2014 George Jean Nathan Award for drama criticism.

Feingold was Chief Theatre Critic for the Voice for 42 years and was let go in May 2013 at the same time as columnist Michael Musto and other popular writers, a move widely decried in the theatre world. He moved to TheaterMania where he launched his column "Thinking About Theatre," which earned this year's Nathan Award. Feingold won the award previously in 1995-1996, and was twice a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Criticism.

He's also a noted playwright and translator, his translations of Bertolt Brecht's lyrics for Threepenny Opera and Happy End having both been produced on Broadway (Tony nominations for the book and lyrics of Happy End), and his Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny being produced internationally by opera companies.
